Glazier

What They Do
Glaziers cut and install all types and sizes of glass, such as plate glass, leaded glass, heat absorbing window glass and mirrors. They also fabricate aluminum entrances, sidelights and show windows. Glaziers fit and install plastic and porcelain panels in metal and wood frames.

Working Conditions
Work is done both indoors and outdoors. Glaziers do a great deal of bending, kneeling, standing, lifting and carrying with some work at heights. Work must be done carefully and often without close supervision.

Qualifications
• Must be at least 18
• Physically capable to perform work
• General math, blueprint reading and mechanical drawing recommended
• Construction and shop classes provide a good background


Application Requirements
• High school diploma or GED and official transcript
• Birth certificate
• Personal interview
• Standardized aptitude test administered by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee


Apprenticeship
• 4 year program
• Minimum 144 hours each year of related classroom instruction
• Indentured to the Joint Apprenticeship Committee
