Union Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship Skill Achievement Program (UCIP-ASAP)

UCIP is further strengthening the union construction industry workforce by providing a union-sponsored, construction pre-apprenticeship training program to minorities, women and economically disadvantaged individuals residing in Cleveland, its Empowerment Zones or other communities in Cuyahoga County.

UCIP-ASAP students receive classroom instruction and hands-on training, and graduates receive DIRECT ENTRY into paid, union apprenticeship programs for which they qualify and in which opportunities exist.

ASAP Requirements:
     • Cleveland or Cuyahoga County Residency
     • 18 years of age or older
     • High School Degree or G.E.D.
     • Passing score on the UCIP-ASAP entrance exam
     • Interview with the UCIP-ASAP Selection Committee
     • Drug screening

Because UCIP-ASAP is a drug- and alcohol-free training program, applicants must agree to be screened for drugs as a condition of acceptance. The drug testing will be conducted by a third-party and paid for by UCIP-ASAP.

Participants may be required to register with the One-Stop Career Center to qualify for a training scholarship.

To APPLY or for more information, contact UCIP-ASAP at (216) 432-7033.

The UCIP-ASAP Mission
“UCIP-ASAP is committed to training area residents who are historically underrepresented in the building trades to excel in a career in union construction. We will support program participants in their mastery of a skilled trade and also assist them in attaining the occupational pride and fulfillment enjoyed from a career in the construction industry.”

The UCIP-ASAP Program
UCIP-ASAP students receive classroom and hands-on training in general construction as well as in other skills to help them succeed in a career in their chosen trade. Upon completion of the program, students may have direct entry to a participating union apprenticeship program(s) for which they are determined qualified and in which openings exist.

The UCIP-ASAP Program Coordinator counsels program participants and assists with their trade selection.

The UCIP-ASAP program includes:

  • Applied Math
  • Blueprint Reading
